Clean Break: The Reviews Are In!
“Full of depth, humor and genuine heart, it was a great story. Abby Vegas crafted a very real tale that resonated with me.”
“Oh My God!! This book was AWESOME…a must read for all book lovers.”
“Once in a while you run across a book and you just really connect to it. You feel like it was written just for you. Like the author knew exactly the kind of book you loved and hit it spot-on. This was one of those books for me…the kind of romance book I love. There was no explicit sex, and yet I got goosebumps—I love when an author can do that!”
“I always enjoy a book that starts off in such a way that as a reader I have no idea where exactly the story will take me. Clean Break was that for me. A clean break from what exactly? I loved Lane’s character and wondered if the very mysterious Viktor was going to be good or very bad for her. I even found myself caring for the secondary characters, which speaks volumes about the depth of characterization. This is a very enjoyable read.”

“When I finished the book, my mind was still reeling from how wonderful it was, and I wanted more … Abby Vegas’ writing has a natural cadence that makes for a quick and fun read. Some novels lack what I consider a unique voice, but I was pulled into Lane’s life, immediately feeling empathetic to her situation…I had a hard time putting this book down.”
“Few things make happier than reading a book that is worth my while…I wouldn’t say much about the romance for fear of giving too much away, but it’s perfect. The storyline is captivating and realistic; it’s not overdone and it’s not cliché or predictable. Her love interest in itself is a bit surprising, and there is the right dose of hope, angst, humour, and confusion, with a bit of suspense…In a nutshell, Clean Break is one very lovely read … a beautifully written work.”
“The writing is strong. I mean really strong…Clean Break takes us on a heartwarming, at times funny journey of our protagonist, Lane Haviland as she navigates adulthood…If there was an award for breakthrough author, I would nominate Abby Vegas. I truly believe she is one to watch in the future!”

“After spending nights with Lane Haviland and her adventures I realized that I’m already hooked...this novel is an amalgam of genres. There is humor, a little action, mystery, a touch of romance if you’d ask and a walk through life. The life of Lane Haviland is surprisingly interesting, hilariously fascinating in some ways yet honest.”
“Didn’t want to put it down... I loved it and highly recommend it.”
“A nice mix [of] contemporary romance, with just enough suspense to give you a rush… Everything progressed in such a natural way that I feel like this was actually about a real group of people! Great book.”

“I was sucked into this book from the first chapter! I was immediately intrigued with Lane as a character … the writing style was entertaining and funny, and kept me interested throughout the whole book—I HAD to keep reading!
I enjoyed how this book was still in the genre of women’s fiction but had a bit of a mystery feel to it … I also enjoyed Cynthia, Lane’s boss, who definitely provided some comic relief in a Devil Wears Prada sort of way.
Overall this was a great read that’s perfect if you’re looking for some entertaining women’s fiction that keeps you guessing. It’s witty, entertaining, and fun!”
“A brilliant book with strong, developed characters and a twist at the end which will leave you surprised and satisfied at the same time.”
“Amazing and addicting … I found myself in love with the plot, writing style, and characters … one of those books, especially near the end of the book, you get extremely annoyed and even upset when someone interrupts your reading. … I absolutely loved this book.”
“Once I started to read this I had a hard time putting it down. I liked the style of writing, witty as well as sharp.”
“Loved this story. Devoured it … Clean Break is one of those great stories that keeps you turning page after page, it’s witty, gritty, sexy and at times heart pounding with intrigue.”
Praise from Fellow Authors
“This one was a delight. Lane Haviland, our first-person narrator/main character, drew me in from the get-go. In fact I may as well quote the opening line, since it gives an excellent sense of what’s to come: ‘It is my firm belief that I wasn’t always a miserable fuck-up.’ The story is smart, with clever plot turns that kept me intrigued through the very end.
But the standout here is the voice of Lane herself. In some ways, Vegas’s writing reminded me of a female Chandler: she definitely knows how to write a one-liner, and how to sell both the darker and more humorous elements of the human experience in the same entertaining story.... I don’t want to get too much into the plot thereby spoiling it for anyone, but suffice to say it was both romantic and suspenseful (my favorite kind). Just trust me: you will enjoy this!”

“I thoroughly enjoyed Clean Break’s subtle, character-driven portrait of a woman who starts out just trying to get by and ends up creating a whole new life for herself. I’ll definitely be excited to check out what Abby Vegas writes next.”
— Roan Parrish, author of In the Middle of Somewhere
“Clean Break has an intricate plot and setting, with characters who leapt off the page. The main character, Lane, faces her fair share of struggles along the way and the author took me on a journey with her as she dealt with each and every one. There were moments of happiness, sadness, laughter, and love, and Lane was a character I wanted to see come out the other side.
A mix of romance and suspense with a hefty dose of realism, this book was an enjoyable read from a new author in the genre.”

“Whip-smart yet warm enough to melt the most frozen heart. Abby’s writing is brilliant and sharp, neatly exposing the thought process behind Lane’s choices, both good and bad, and her resolve in dealing with the consequences.”
